What Is a Submersible Sewage Pump? A submersible sewage pump is an electric pump designed to operate fully submerged in wastewater. Unlike standard centrifugal pumps, which must remain above water, submersible pumps are sealed in a way that prevents water from entering the motor or electrical components. These pumps are primarily used to transfer sewage, wastewater, and other liquids containing solids or semi-solids from one location to another—typically from a lower to a higher elevation, such as from a collection pit to a treatment plant or main sewer line. The pump’s hermetically sealed motor is cooled by the surrounding liquid, which enhances energy efficiency and prolongs the pump’s service life.
